About us

For many years, Bergen was the center for the import and sale of grain products in Norway. Thus, it was also natural to establish grain mills around Bergen. When mills at that time were dependent on hydropower - the search for good waterfalls started in early 1860.

Tøsse Mølle is a traditional oat mill from 1866 on an island called Osterøy just outside Bergen. In 1906 we started to produce oatmeal. Over several generations, the knowledge has been further developed, and today we are very proud of our oatmeal.

Norway has a very suitable clima for cultivating oats, and Norwegian oats are very famous of the quality.

Tøsse oatmeal is produced according to an old recipe. A gentle drying process gives the oatmeal an extra good taste. As the only oat mill in Norway, we dry the oat kernel in a site-built dryer at 100 degrees for more than 3 hours. The result is a very tasty oatmeal. Since we only produce oats, there is little gluten in our oatmeal.

Other mills are industrials, producing all types of grain in the same production facility. The focus is on high volume and low costs. It affects taste and quality. In addition, the content of gluten, among other things, is higher.

Tøsse Mølle has previously built up the brand name BJØRN, and until 1995 BJØRN was the leading oatmeal in Norway. The brand name was sold to Orkla, but Tøsse Mølle continued to produce the same oatmeal with the good taste - under the name TØSSE.

Tøsse Mølle is developed to produce oatmeal. Through four large floors and 7,000 square meters, the oats go from the silo through cleaning, sorting, husking, polishing, drying, cutting, steaming, rolling and cooling processes - before the finished oatmeal is packed and delivered to the customer.

We guarantee that you will be satisfied with TØSSE oatmeal.

Sincerely,

The Oat Team at Tøsse Mølle
